HSK four is the first level for the HSK test and is pretty easy. To be at HSK level four you need to be able to recognize and use the first 1200 characters. This includes 600 characters specifically for HSK four and then also the 600 characters for HSKS 1 to 3.

This level is defined as being for intermediate learners who can have a discussion and use Chinese to explain more complicated things. HSK Four is roughly equivalent to level B1 in the CEFR.
